What is Pure Sinewave Inverter/UPS

What is Pure Sinewave Inverter/UPS? A pure sine wave inverter is an electronic device that converts direct current (DC) from a battery or other source into alternating current (AC), similar to the power from a wall outlet. This type of inverter is more expensive than modified sine wave inverters, but it offers several benefits, including:

Here are some of the benefits of using a pure sine wave inverter/UPS:

  • Better performance for sensitive electronics. As mentioned, pure sine wave inverters produce a smooth, uninterrupted AC waveform ideal for sensitive electronics such as computers, TVs, Fridges, washing machines, Air conditioners, Microwave ovens, Fans and LEd lights, and appliances. This can help prevent damage to these devices and ensure they operate at peak performance.
  • Less noise and interference. Modified sine wave inverters produce a square wave waveform that can cause noise and interference with sensitive electronics. This can be especially noticeable in audio and video equipment. On the other hand, pure sine wave inverters produce a much cleaner waveform that is less likely to cause problems. The Square wave or another waveform creates humming noise in fans and motors, and they become hot while running.
  • Longer battery life. As mentioned earlier, pure sine wave inverters are more efficient than modified sine wave inverters. This means they can run for longer on a battery the same size. This can be a major advantage if you use an inverter to power essential devices during a power outage. A lithium battery is the better choice to run an inverter/UPS as it has four times the life of a tubular battery.
  • Better compatibility with a wider range of devices. Some devices, such as motors and appliances, require a pure sine wave inverter to operate properly. If you are unsure whether a particular device will work with a modified sine wave inverter, it is always best to err on caution and choose a pure sine wave inverter.

Pure sine wave inverters offer several benefits over modified sine wave inverters. If you are looking for the best possible performance and compatibility with your devices, then a pure sine wave inverter is the way to go.

Difference between BESS and Online UPS

2000_3500

An online UPS and a battery energy storage system (BESS) provide backup power in a power outage, but they work differently.

Online UPS

An online UPS (uninterruptible power supply) is a type of UPS that provides continuous, uninterrupted power to connected devices. It uses a rectifier to convert incoming AC power to DC power stored in a battery. The battery is then used to power an inverter, which converts the DC power back to AC power. This means that the connected devices always receive power from the Inverter, and the battery is always working.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uninterruptible_power_supply

Battery Energy Storage System

A battery energy storage system (BESS) is a system that stores energy in batteries. This energy can then be used to provide backup power in the event of a power outage, or it can also store energy from solar power if it has the provision. The BESS is the latest technology developed for backup purposes, and it has isolation power in case the transformer technology makes it.

Comparison between Online UPS and BESS

High Frequency-based Online UPS is made through the circuitry where triple conversion technology wastes a lot of energy, and the battery constantly remains in the picture, reducing the battery life. At the same time, the BESS passes the power through the isolation transformer, which gives the isolation to the Computers and transfers to the battery mode when the Power outage happens.https://suvastika.com/bess-battery-energy-storage-solutions/

Voltage Range: In the Online UPS, the Input voltage range is 180 V to 265 Volts, a very small range for countries with high power fluctuations. The output Voltage is always 220V+/—1%. This does not make any sense in today s world as most IT products like computers and Wi-Fi routers come with 110 V to 260 V. Still, we are giving 220 to the computer and using online UPS, which was the requirement of computers made initially, which were designed on transformer-based technology so needed 220V. The major challenge is the Input voltage range is 180 to 260 volts which is the major challenge for online UPS. The moment voltage goes below 180V, the battery will come into the picture, so when the power outage happens, the battery is already consumed, so there is no backup time in case of power failure. So in the case of BESS, the voltage range is wide, like 140 Volts to 265 Volts which is the safer limit for the IT loads and switches the power to battery mode. If this voltage range is violated

Charging time The charging time for online UPS is at least 8 hours to charge the battery, and for Online UPS battery keeps on discharging as well to keep the voltage to 220Volts. So the battery is hardly charged fully. But in the case of BESS, the battery is charged in 2 to 3 hours, and BESS is ready to Power the computers and IT equipment always.

Backup time In the case of Online UPS, the backup time will always be lesser than the BESS as the Lithium battery is charged faster than the SMF battery.

Switching time In the case of online UPS, there is zero switching time which keeps the computers and IT peripherals running in case of power failures. Our BESS also has a switch over time of fewer than five milliseconds which cant switch the computers, and IT loads switch in case of power failure.

Life of the battery In the case of Online UPS, the battery life is generally 12 to 18 months, reducing the backup time, and the user changes it when it gives 2 to 5 minutes of backup time. The Lithium battery’s life is ten years, and the warranty provided is three years minimum.

IOT-based BESS The BESS can monitor and control it through Bluetooth and Wi-Fi-based mobile applications, whereas the Online UPS works on old SNMP technology.

Summary

The table below summarizes the key differences between online UPS and battery energy storage systems:

FeatureOnline UPSBattery Energy Storage System
Continuous powerYesyes
PriceMore expensiveLess expensive

ApplicationsCritical applications, such as data centres or hospitals Critical applications, such as data centres or hospitals

Which one is right for you?

The best choice for you will depend on your specific needs. BESS is the best choice if you need continuous, uninterrupted power for critical applications, voltage variations are in your area, and you need more backup time.

The Benefits of Replacing Gensets with Lithium-based Battery ESS

Electronic Genset Su-vastika

What are The Benefits of Replacing Gensets with Lithium-based Battery ESS? Clean energy solutions are the priority of every Govt, and Su-vastika has always strived to make it happen. Su-vastika is a Government of India Recognized Star Export House in Gurugram, India. The company has recently announced the launch of its Electronic Genset, which is dubbed “Power on Wheels.” https://suvastika.com/diesel-generator-vs-ess-which-solution-is-best-in-todays-climate/

It is a pollution-free and much more cost-effective replacement for traditional diesel generators.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hybrid_power

The company has installed its electronic genset in their Gurugram-based manufacturing facility as a real-life example, successfully powering the entire factory. The installed electronic genset, which also serves as the best demo for the intended purpose, successfully runs loads of 100 KVA, including capacitive, resistive, and mixed loads.

One of the key features of Su-vastika’s Electronic Genset is its customization capabilities. The capacity can be increased or decreased per the individual’s needs. Even after the installation, the duration of its Electronic Genset can be increased or decreased by reducing the load or increasing the battery capacity. The lithium battery gets charged in 4 to 5 hours completely, so in case of intermittent power cuts, it charges quickly and is ready to give back up again.

Because Su-vastika’s Electronic Genset uses reliable and proven Lithium batteries, the life cycle of the battery is expected to last for 5 to 7 years, depending on the power cuts.

This Electronic Genset is super-clean, with no hanging wires. It is completely safe, as there is no flammable diesel to deal with or worry about electric shocks. It looks good and takes up much less space, making it suitable for even the tightest corners.

Electronic Genset

Users can plug in and forget.  For over a decade, su-vastika Electronic Genset can easily handle all your power needs.

Over time, Suvastika’sElectronic Genset will be much more cost-effective than a diesel generator.

Because no matter the load, a diesel generator will always use a set amount of fuel, while our Electronic Genset reduces the consumption when the load is decreased. Running on electricity charges takes one-fourth of the cost compared to diesel pricing for running the same load. With no maintenance required, it will keep adding to the savings for years.

This system can run on the Solar as well by adding an MPPT Solar charge controller with the solar panels, and this system is designed to add Solar without making any changes in the system.

Su-vastika’s Electronic Genset will undoubtedly bring a massive shift in how we generate and store power.

The Benefits of Replacing Gensets with Lithium-based Battery ESS are beyond doubt.

Solar Hybrid PCU with Bluetooth

First Solar Hybrid PCU with Bluetooth based mobile application lunched by Su-vstika. This is the Solar PCU with Bluetooth application which can be represented with the mobile app very easily as it has so many settings and scenarios to understand and for the common man it’s very tough to understand Solar PCU without the mobile application.

bluetooth pcu app

Let us try to understand the Solar Hybrid PCU first. We call it solar hybrid PCU because it has the off Grid Solar along with the Grid power which is use to charge the battery. in off grid solar application the battery is being charged through the solar and there is no grid present so the solar energy is only use to power the house and appliances. Where as the Solar Hybrid PCU the grid is also available and the solar is also available and how this Solar Hybrid PCU works can be shown through the animation and the mobile application very easily.

So in the first scenario we are showing that  the grid is not available and the solar energy is available and battery is being charged through the solar and load is also running on the solar. We have to understand that if the load is lesser than solar energy than only battery will be charged in this case. So the solar energy is flowing through the battery while charging and discharging the battery simultaneously as the solar power is always connected through the battery only in case of the Hybrid Solar PCU.https://suvastika.com/benefits-of-bluetooth-hybrid-solar-pcu/

battery reserve settings

This is another scenario where the battery got fully charged and solar power is also available than our solar hybrid PCU will cut the grid power and utilise the solar power so that the solar power doesnt get wasted. In this scenario there will be possibility of battery being charged and the load is running or battery is being discharged along with the solar power to run the load. It depends on the power being utilized by the load if house load is lesser than the solar power available than the solar power will charge the battery and supply the power to the home. But if the house has more load than the solar power available than the solar power along with the battery power will run the house load so in this case battery will be discharging.https://suvastika.com/what-is-hybrid-solar-pcu-solar-hybrid-off-grid-system/

In another scenario both the grid Power is also available and the solar power is also available than the Grid power will be running the house load and the solar power will charge the battery. There can be two scenarios in this if the solar power is enough to charge the battery than it will only chaarge the battery but if it is not enough power to charge the battery than the battery will be charged from both sources from the grid and from the solar power also.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hybrid_power

Solar PCU line diagram

Solar PCU Scenario

Another scenario is that Grid is available and solar is not available in that case the battery will be charged and Grid power will be running the load. Mostly it will be the night mode or a cloudy day and battery be kept will be kept charged through the grid so that in case the grid fails than back up is given by the battery.

solar is not available and grid is working in Solar PCU

Comparison between Online UPS and Lift Inverter/Lift UPS/ERD

Lift Inverter/ERD with lithium battery

What is the Comparison between Online UPS and Lift Inverter/Lift UPS/ERD? When installing a power backup for the lifts and escalators, there is always a suggestion to install the Online UPS as people feel that there is a switching time to remove when the power goes and come back. So here we have made a technical comparison of how the Online UPS and Lift Inverter/ERD technology is different from each other in the case of installing the backup for the lifts.https://techbullion.com/what-makes-erd-ups-better-than-online-ups/ We at Su-vastika filed 3 Technology patents and got one patent because we worked on the lift backup technology and kept improving the lift backups.https://suvastika.com/whats-lift-inverter-and-compare-with-lift-ups/

Lift pic

Lift picture

  1. The Online UPS is designed for computer, and IT loads as the load is almost fixed, so they get very high efficiency. In contrast, the 3-phase Induction motors used in lifts have a varying load as the load varies when the lift moves in upward and downward conditions, so the load varies drastically. Hence, the power factor in the online UPS varies, which creates a big electricity bill for the online UPS as well the battery life is reduced since the battery is always functional in the case of Online UPS.
  2. Especially the High-Frequency triple conversion online UPS has a big electricity consumption in case they are used in lifts. Since there is no isolation transformer, they are prone to high failure as the induction motor creates a lot of jerks, spikes, and surges, which the three-phase triple conversion technology can’t handle without the isolation transformer.
  3. The backup time with the same battery bank will be lower than the Lift Inverter/ERD as the inverter efficiency is very high, even if the load varies from 10% to 100%. In contrast, the Online UPS efficiency depends on the percentage of load percentage.
  4. The online UPS converts the power from the AC to DC and again to AC power which needs constant consumption of power as the power conversion creates losses also; at the same time, it charges and discharges batteries, whereas the Lift Inverter/ERD is only using the power, for charging from the ERD and once the battery is charged it stops so after that no power is being consumed.
  5. The Lift Inverter/ERD only activates in the battery mode when the power goes. Still, the Online UPS always consumes power through the mains and batteries to regulate the power to make it a constant voltage not required by the lifts.
  6. The switching time in the Lift Inverter/ERD is less than three milliseconds, which is enough to take the lift load without any jerk, a patented technology developed by Su-vastika in India.
  7. Since the lifts don’t have any jerks etc. so the ECU is connected through the RS485 at the back of the ERD system and which gives a signal inside the lifts to tell the passenger travelling in the lift whether he is using mains power or battery power and in case of the low battery of lift the lifts are stopped at a floor. Doors are being opened, and lifts don’t work after that.
  8. The ERD technology has the future capability of solar compatibility as the external solar charge controller can be added to the ERD system, which will allow the normal ERD backup system to solar based ERD system which can run the lifts and elevators completely on the solar power and save the substantial power bills.
  9. The most crucial point is online UPS is designed for 180-265 Volts, so the moment the voltage reduces by 180 V, the battery is being used for the back. In that case, the battery is mostly used for stabilizing the voltage, and when the electric cut takes place, there is hardly any back left. Also, 265 Volts is very common in India, so the battery will mostly be used for this purpose rather than for power cuts.
  10. The companies design lifts on 3 phase, which has a wide voltage range and can work on the voltage range of 370-450Volts which is a range under which it works properly, whereas the Online UPS range for 3 phase has a limited voltage range and always try to give 220V+/- 1%, which is not required by the lifts and Escalators. The power consumption from the grid and the battery are required to make this voltage, which creates extra power bills and reduces the battery life; when we make the comparison between Online UPS and the Lift Inverter/Lift UPS/ERD, then we realize that they are not comparable at all.

Lift Inverter with battery bank

Lift Inverter/ERD with a battery bank.

11. The Lift Inverter/ERD can be run on a Lithium battery to increase the life of the Lift Inverter/ERD. Online UPS works on Lead acid-based SMF or Tubular batteries. The space taken by the Lithium and SMF batteries and the life and weight comparison is impossible.

12. The Lift Inverter/ERD designed by Su-vastika can monitor and control the ERD through the IOT devices like GSM and Wi-Fi having the mobile application. We can see all the parameters, like voltages in all three phases and the load on all three phases etc.

13. Digital Warranty Online UPS does not have the Digital Warranty. Generally, it comes with one year warranty where. In contrast, we at Su-vastika have a Digital warranty in all our product ranges and offer a two-year warranty without any warranty card as the product has a built Digital warranty clock.

Digital Warranty

mobile application

Conclusion: The Comparison between Online UPS and Lift Inverter/Lift UPS/ERD clearly shows that Online UPS is not meant to carry backups.

Tubular Lead Acid Battery Health Hazards in Inverter/UPS Industry

What are the Tubular Lead Acid Battery Health Hazards in Inverter/UPS Industry? People using Tubular Lead Acid batteries at homes and offices are not aware of the consequences regarding the health hazards of these Tubular Lead Acid batteries used in homes, offices, and other institutions.

When they charge and discharge, the Ttubular Lead-acid batteries create a lot of fumes which are healed knowingly and unknowingly by the people around them. World Health Organisation has been warning about the health hazards resulting from the pollution of Lead in different areas and is trying to create awareness regarding Lead poisoning. So I thought let me also make people aware regarding the risks of Tubular Lead Acid battery, which is being installed by the people inside their homes and offices, and no one knows how dangerous it can be when it spreads the lead fumes which are inhaled especially by the kids.https://suvastika.com/lithium-battery-is-going-to-replace-lead-acid-battery-technology/

Lead exposure can have serious consequences for the health of children. At high levels of exposure, Lead attacks the brain and central nervous system, causing coma, convulsions and even death. Children who survive severe lead poisoning may be left with intellectual disability and behavioural disorders. At lower levels of exposure that cause no obvious symptoms, Lead is now known to produce a spectrum of injury across multiple body systems. In particular, Lead can affect children’s brain development, resulting in reduced intelligence quotient (IQ), behavioural changes such as reduced attention span, increased antisocial behaviour, and reduced educational attainment. Lead exposure also causes anaemia, hypertension, renal impairment, immunotoxicity and toxicity to the reproductive organs. The neurological and behavioural effects of Lead are believed to be irreversible.https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/lead-poisoning-and-health#:~:text=Exposure%20to%20lead-contaminated%20soil%20and%20dust%20resulting%20from,such%20as%20the%20brain%2C%20kidneys%2C%20liver%20and%20bones.

There is no known safe blood lead concentration; even blood lead concentrations as low as 3.5 µg/dL may be associated with decreased intelligence in children, behavioural difficulties and learning problems (1). As lead exposure increases, the range and severity of symptoms and effects also increase. Lead Acid battery health hazards in the different age groups of people using Inverter/UPS vary in different areas. The lead fumes from Tubular Lead Acid batteries in Inverter/UPS are causing a lot of health hazards.

Encouragingly, the successful phasing out of leaded gasoline in most countries and other lead control measures has significantly declined population-level blood lead concentrations. As of July 2021, leaded fuel for cars and lorries is no longer sold anywhere in the world (2). However, more needs to be done to phase out Lead paint; so far, only 45% of countries have introduced legally binding controls on Lead paint. Also ban on the Led Acid batteries being used for the Inverter/UPS, which are kept in the vicinity of homes and offices, is another form of Lead which is a major cause of concern for the various Govts. The major challenge is awareness of Lead as a deadly substance.

All dealers and distributors keep the Lead Acid batteries in the Air conditioned environments for selling purposes or sometimes keep the scrap in their shops and keep breathing the same lead fumes. They don’t realize the health hazards associated with this.https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S18780296160010

Environmental Concern about Tubular Lead Acid Battery Inverter/UPS

According to a 2003 report entitled “Getting the Lead Out” by Environmental Defense and the Ecology Center of Ann Arbor, Michigan, the batteries of vehicles on the road contained an estimated 2,600,000 metric tons (2,600,000 long tons; 2,900,000 short tons) of Lead. Some lead compounds are extremely toxic. Long-term exposure to even tiny amounts of these compounds can cause brain and kidney damage, hearing impairment, and learning problems in children.[34] The auto industry uses over 1,000,000 metric tons (980,000 long tons; 1,100,000 short tons) of Lead every year, with 90% going to conventional lead–acid vehicle batteries. While lead recycling is a well-established industry, more than 40,000 metric tons (39,000 long tons; 44,000 short tons) end up in landfills yearly. According to the federal Toxic Release Inventory, another 70,000 metric tons (69,000 long tons; 77,000 short tons) are released in the lead mining and manufacturing process.[35]

Attempts are being made to develop alternatives (particularly for automotive use) because of concerns about the environmental consequences of improper disposal and lead smelting operations, among other reasons. Alternatives are unlikely to displace them for applications such as engine starting or backup power systems since the batteries, although heavy, are low-cost.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead%E2%80%93acid_battery

How does lead get in the Air?

Sources of lead emissions vary from one area to another.
